Using the environment as a context, the Pacific Education Institute (PEI) provides schools and teachers with tools and support to help students become socially and scientifically literate citizens, adept at critical thinking and engaged in a lifetime of discovery.
PEI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization representing professional, governmental and non-governmental organizations involved in environment and sustainability education in the state of Washington. These organizations include the Washington Association of School Principals, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington Forest Protection Association and Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
PEI promotes experiential, critical thinking and problem-solving programs that use the natural resources, environment and culture of the Pacific Northwest as a context for education. To this end, the Institute supports teachers and school districts that offer rigorous, integrated academic instruction in K-20 educational settings. PEI bridges the formal and informal education sectors by facilitating environment-based integrated learning.
